Some diet tips to avoid heartburn
- Take an Early breakfast and take three main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and two or three meals on a regular schedule, with spaces of about three to four hours between each meal.
- Eat your dinner at least two hours before bedtime (it is not advisable to do so right after dinner, but some schedules do not allow otherwise).
- Try to sleep with two pillows or with the head of the bed semi-high. There are recommended wonderfull pillow for this.
- Avoid fried and fatty foods. A simple change, such as replacing whole milk by semi skimmed mik is one firm step to get rid of Heartburn symptoms.
- Try to avoid coffee almost completely, black tea and soft drinks. For some persons that can not live without cofee during breakfast, there are more healthy substitutes.
- Eat slowly (at least 20 minutes per meal), chewing food thoroughly. Try to do not talk while you eat.
- Drinking a glass of water (at least) in foods. Also, you know the importance of drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
- Include dairy products in breakfast and lunch, also teas (chamomile, flax).
- Eat food and drinks at room temperature, avoid very cold or hot foods or drinks.
- Basically, eat varied and in appropriate proportions.
- Beware of too much citrus.
- Be careful with strong seasonings like onion, garlic. The chocolate may increase the risk and discomfort of acid reflux (heartburn) in some people with hiatal hernia.
